Student Clubs & Cultural Activities Center

PURPOSE

Zaman University recognizes that organized student groups are a valuable part of the student educational environment. Student organizations further the University’s educational mission. They are responsible for making positive contributions to the primary educational mission of the University and are expected to encourage intellectual and social development of members. In addition, these groups are expected to complement the University’s mission and to comply with campus policies, rules and regulations.

STATEMENT OF GENERAL POLICY

Recognition provides official identification for an affiliated group, use of designated University facilities and services, and the coordination and communication of the group’s activities to the campus community. Recognition does not imply University endorsement of the purposes of an organization, nor does the University assume sponsorship of, or responsibility for, any of the activities of the group on or off the property of the University.

In order to achieve and maintain Recognized Student Organization status each student organization must:

Adhere to the policies, regulations, and requirements set forth in this document and University Policies and procedures.

Achieve and maintain recognition by one primary approved University Recognizing Agent that is responsible for the actions of the club or organization. Groups may choose an affiliate recognizing agent with the understanding that the University Recognizing Agent is responsible for the actions of the club or organization. Clubs and organizations should contact their preferred recognizing body to indicate their interest and intent.

All Recognized Student Organizations must abide by the Rules and Regulations of the University Recognizing Agent.

DEFINITIONS

Recognized Student Organization:  A student group which is organized for the students of Zaman University which has complied with university registration requirements set forth in these regulations and has complied with all requirements set forth by their University Recognizing Agent.

University Recognizing Agent: Any student government, formal university department, or approved affiliated entity that will assist with the annual registration process and act as a liaison for appropriate university policies.

Registration: The annual process in which student organizations register through Zaman University Clubs Proposal Package by listing officers, rosters, and group descriptions.

TYPES OF CLUBS

Club types are categorized as Internal Student based clubs: committee which exists entirely within the University, and must predominately consist of students, however may be affiliated with external organizations and membership must be predominantly made up of Zaman University students.

ELIGIBILITY OF CLUBS

Clubs must have a clearly defined purpose and the aims of one club must not overlap those of another club.

To be eligible for registration, the purpose and aims of the club must be deemed to be in the best interest of the University and students.

Membership of the club must be open to all Zaman University students.

COMPOSITION OF CLUBS

All club committees must contain the following positions:

(a) President

(b) Vice President

(c) Secretary

Multiple positions may not be held by one person unless approved by the Student Clubs Center.

Starting a New Club

Before completing and submitting the Clubs & Organizations Application, consider the following questions as it intends to advance the effectiveness of your club:

  • What are the objectives of your club?
  • Do you know who will serve as club officers?
  • Do you & the other club officers have a cumulative G.P.A. of 2.0?
  • Do you have a faculty member to serve as club advisor?
  • Do you have the time commitment needed for managing a club?
  • What steps will you take to ensure your club is successful during the year and in the future?
  • Is there a membership fee to become a member of your club?
  • Are you aware of the club’s expectations and responsibilities?
  • What type of service project could your club fulfill (requirement is 1 per semester)?
