New Departments Open to Serve Job Market Demands

International Trade and Logistics (ITL) and Industrial Engineering (IE) will be offered as new majors under the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering respectively at Zaman University starting this academic year 2017-2018 onward. These new majors are going to generate human resources that are highly needed in the job market today and in the near future.

Having recognized the economic and the job market situation in Cambodia, the Academic Board of Zaman University proposed the offering of the two new majors, which is to make sure that prospective students are not falling behind the current trend. For instance, according to an article by Mr. Cam McGrath posted in The Phnom Penh Post online newspaper on 7th July 2017, Cambodia's GDP has increased from a mere $2.5 billion in 1992 to about $20 billion today. The article continues that "Garments will continue to dominate the Kingdom's manufacturing sector in the coming years. But an increasing share of production will be occupied by food processing, electronics, and automotive parts." Moreover, "logistics will take on a heightened priority as ASEAN regional integration erodes borders and allows companies to develop more complex cross-border supply chains," the article goes on.

Hence, this would explicitly imply that Cambodia is going to need more human resources to fulfill the job market in these fields more than ever. The fact that Zaman University is offering these two majors falls in line very well with the University's mission that is "To make Zaman University an environment that fosters and supports intellectual growth and life-long learning among our faculty, staff, and students."

The University has been steadily keeping its growth from the beginning from its establishment in 2011 with seven departments including Civil Engineering; Computer Science; Management of Information Systems; Digital Arts & Design; Banking and Finance; Business Administration; and Political Science and International Relations. In 2015, Architectural Engineering Department was added to the list. One year after that two more departments-Architecture and Construction Management-were open as well, while this year there are International Trade and Logistics and Industrial Engineering.
